America should join the ICC

DEAR EDITOR - When President Barack Obama renewed sanctions against Zimbabwe he said the tiny Southern African country posed a great risk to US interests.

President Obama renewed the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZDERA) for another year to punish Zimbabwe.

Mr Obama is being selective in his stance.

There are many countries that threaten US interests and they would make Zimbabwe look like a joke.

One wonders why President Obama dilly-dallies with these countries, while making a lot of noise about Zimbabwe.

Mr Obama should know that America is but one country in a world with many countries and we all cannot live like Americans.

If President Obama is sincere about observing global rules, he should sign the Rome Statute and make sure the US is a member of, and bound by, the International Criminal Court.

That way, US servicemen and leaders can also be tried for war crimes if they kill innocent civilians. They we can respect its noise on many issues.

America cannot have its cake and eat it.
