TWO Bulawayo based ZBC journalists were on Saturday evening questioned by police in connection with the theft of a cellphone belonging to the Minister of Information and Publicity Sikhanyiso Ndlovu during a press conference held at a local hotel.
The two, Lee Mangena, ZBC reporter and Charles Kanogoiwa, a camera person were warned and cautioned and signed a statement to that effect following the disappearance and the subsequent recovery of the cellphone which was hidden underneath a ZBC vehicle.
“After addressing the press conference I discovered that one of my cell phones which was on the table was missing. I took my other phone and called the missing phone and it started ringing. With the help of the hotel staff we managed to trace the phone hidden inside the spare wheel of the ZBC crew van which was packed outside,” the minister told the Zimbabwe Guardian on Saturday.
After the incident the minister said he phoned the police and the two ZBC staffers were questioned over the incident.
“One of the accused came to me pleading that he was being framed and he has a young baby and wife and cannot afford to go to prison. I told him that if he was innocent the law should take its course,” said the minister.
The minister said since the phone was recovered he was no longer interested in pursuing the issue.
Meanwhile the ZBC news crew boycotted coverage of the minister’s address during the commemorations of the World Press Freedom Day—a development which been viewed by many as a linked to the above incident.
Repeated efforts to seek a comment from the two staffers were all in vain.

When will we stop this thieving from one another?
And, why should those duddes who have slaved their butts off to get what they wanted now have to surrender it (without recourse) to a thief who just comes and takes, xsey?
There are three bones in each finger called the proximal phalanx, the middle phalanx and the distal phalanx. Each finger has three joints.(Wikipedia).
I propose a proximal phalanx is lobbed off each time we get caught thieving.
Only problem is how do you take a thief's fingerprints once he has lost all his proximal phalanxes?
