Joe on new Zim Guardian video channel

A VIDEO diary of R&B star Joe Thomas's visit to Zimbabwe
in early February is now available to view on a sister video site to the Zimbabwe Guardian. Joe visited the country as a tourism ambassador and performed at various venues in the country.

The channel, called ZWTUBE is modelled after the Youtube concept, will be used to showcase Zimbabwe and Zimbabwean tourism.

The aim is to show the richness and diversity of Zimbabwe to the world—a move we consider very relevant given the current situation in the country.

It will offer free video hosting to Zimbabweans in the same way Youtube offers to the world.

A more focused channel on Zimbabwe will help create a community where Zimbabweans can showcase their talent and tourists, businesses and interested parties will find out about Zimbabwe.

The channel will carry videos on tourism, the arts (including music concerts), theatre and film. In that way, the channel will serve as a resource for those people wishing to find out about Zimbabwe, its people and its richness and forge partnerships with organisations in the country.

Visitors to the site can set up individual channels and upload, for free, their videos. Companies will be able to create channels and feature their products and services in video format on the site.

Current videos on the site include an exclusive Joe Thomas interview (courtesy of Showman Tours and Leisure Services), an exclusive interview by Isaac Nyambiya with Zimbabwe celebrity Tich Mataz, a showcase of the Victoria Falls, Great Zimbabwe and many other interesting places in Zimbabwe. A video of Luciano's visit will be available soon.

The site, which is still being tweaked, is in beta form and a full version will be rolled out in a few months. Suggestions for improving the site should be lodged using the comments form below.

The new video channel is part of a collaborative process which led to the establishment of an online entertainment radio station — www.tzradio.co.uk — and the Zimbabwe Guardian news website. The idea is to create a community in the Diapsora which is, as our catchprase says, "Home Away From Home".
