THE Attorney-General Sobusa Gula-Ndebele has been fired by President Robert Mugabe “for misbehaviour” following recommendations by a tribunal which investigated him on allegations of conduct inconsistent with public office.
The announcement was made Acting Secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Maxwell Ranga announced yesterday who led a tribunal set up in December last year to investigate Ndebele..
Gula-Ndebele had been on suspension since December last year after his arrest in November.
Ndebele is alleged to have had a meeting with former NMB Bank deputy managing director James Mushore, who was on the police wanted list and assured him that he would not be tried in Zimbabwe on fraud and corruption charges.
"It is hereby notified that His Excellency the President has received the report of the tribunal appointed under Section 110 (5) of the Constitution to inquire into the question of removing the Attorney-General, Sobusa Gula-Ndebele, from office for misbehaviour.
"In that report, the tribunal has advised His Excellency the President that the Attorney-General ought to be removed from office for misbehaviour.
"Accordingly, in terms of Section 110 (3) of the Constitution, the Attorney-General is removed from office with effect from the date of publication of this notice," Mr Ranga said in a notice in yesterday’s Government Gazette.
The current Acting Attorney-General is Justice Bharat Patel.
