LESOTHO has come out and openly supported President Robert Mugabe and told foreign powers Wednesday to respect the sovereignty of states in the African region.
Asked for his reaction to calls for sanctions on President Mugabe and members of his government, Pakalitha Mosisili, the Lesotho prime minister, said it was not for outsiders to decide on the legitimacy of a particular government.
"It is high time countries and states respect the sovereignty of other countries," the Lesotho prime minister said.
"Whoever is saying it does not confer legitimacy on the government of Robert Mugabe, who is he or she to do that?"
His comments come after leaders of the group of eight industrialized nations rejected the legitimacy of President Mugabe's victory on June 27 and vowed to take "financial and other measures" against perpetrators of political violence.
Mosisili said that any government in Zimbabwe had to have the support of the armed forces.
"I don't care who rules Zimbabwe but he must be acceptable to the armed forces because he needs their support, but even they must respect the will of the people," he said.
Along with Zimbabwe, Lesotho is one of the 14 countries which make up the Southern African Development Community (Sadc).

N/A • N/A Subject: ROBERT MUGABE LEGITIMATE PRESIDENT OF ZIMBABWE Thu, 10 Jul 2008 15:34:47 • I a Zimbabwean son of the soil, hereby confirm that Robert Gabriel Mugabe, is the legitimate President of Zimbabwe. I together with 2 million plus Zimbabeans, conferred that honor upon Mugabe on June 27 the year of our Lord 2008. This record is there in heaven.
I also realize that there is another constituency which did not participate in the election because their leadership withdrew. That constituency will therefore have to wait for the next election to confer the honour on their candidate should they be successful.
Based on what I have said above, I therefore raise my hands up to the LORD GOD ON HIGH, and ask him to guide Robert as he stirs the Nation out of of its polarization and bring all Zimbabweans together to build our GREAT ZIMBABWE. I thank every Zimbabwean, those who voted and those who did not. We are all sons of the soil.Let us now build. It is us who should recognize ourselves and God will bless us.
To our Armed forces, do not negate your constitutional responsibility to protect our country at all costs. While doing that, try also to show those amongst us who may have lost the way that Zimbabwe is greater and should therefore supersede individual interest and pieces of silver that maybe dangled our way. We are brothers, lets bring them back to the fold.

I'm not sure whether this statement reflects that the Prime Minister of Lesotho expreses support for Mugabe. Mugabe might have the support of the army, but does he respect the will of the people? The violence, killings and intimidations (sanctioned by Mugabe) that took place prior to the run off show that he does not respect the will of the people. I think in a democratic process legitimacy does not come from the army, but from the masses who would have expressed their will to be ruled by a ruler of their choice so as to avoid a Hobbesian state of nature.

Which African state discussed british and irish conflicts? the british should have called for sanctions against china for illtreating the dalai lama... burma they gave up after the monks were massacared there by the junta and no human rights were talked about just to mention but a few. my question is WHATS SO SPECIAL ABOUT ZIMBABWE? my advice to britain and america is please leave Zimbabwe alone, your medling in her affairs only makes people, innocent people suffer and more resolute to defend their birthright.
