Sat, 09 Aug 2008 14:12:00 +0000

PREPARATIONS for the Heroes and Defence Forces day commemorations are reported to be progressing well in Mashonaland Central province where they are scheduled to be held and will be held in honour of former Zapu leader, Dr. Joshua Nkomo, among other heroes who died in the liberation struggle.

The eight districts in the province will hold individual commemorations with Bindura hosting the main event at the Provincial Heroes acre with proceedings for the Defence Forces day being held at Chipadze stadium.

The celebrations which will be held in honour of in memory of Dr Joshua Nkomo – ZIPRA Commander in Chief – will also be in memory of commanders and ZIPRA and ZANLA fighters, and all those people who died fighting for the liberation of Zimbabwe.

ZIPRA and ZANLA were the military wings of PF Zapu and Zanu PF respectively during the liberation struggle.

According to the Minister of Information and Publicity, Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, this year’s celebrations, “must be a strong reminder to all Zimbabweans to jealously guard the hard won independence and sovereignty won through the barrel of the gun and over the blood of our dear beloved fallen comrades.”

• Omuhle sincere people tell nothing but the truth. Yes Mugabe may have had his faults, but the bulk of the problems in this country start with the Zimbabwean white man who spanned the hand of reconciliation, and they caused previous UK Ambasador Williams to be removed from Zimbabwe and posted to New Zealand because he was too friendly with Muzenda. You wont find anywhere where it is written-but its a fact.

If you do not know much about Zimbabwe, ngicela uvale umlomo wako kuze kube napakadhe

Nkomo did not sale out. Its fools and tribalists-I hope you are not one- who think he did.Nkomo had vision he saw that our fights amongst ourselves were not necessary. You are a theorist. I lived most of those episodes you talk about. Zimbos involved in both side of the dissident conflict had gone beserk. I mean both sides. I know this as I leaved in that part of Zimbabwe during that time.Hence stop harping about that.

If Mujuru disrespected DR Nkomo, that does not make the Unity deal a sale out deal. People make mistakes,If you yourself has not made any, then you are blessed.

I want to defend Dr Nkomo and all his colleagues who saw unity as the way forward. They had vision. When he died, I remember some whites saying now that Nkomo is dead, Matebeleland is now fertile for opposition politics. The rest I wont say for now.

Zimbabweans, what we need is unity. If we allow tribalism to rear its ugly face in the name of supporting democracy in Zimbabwe because we think Morgan will score our revenge-yekela ba lungisane, then we are creating problems for our children.

Please ngatibatanei. Of course I cant force Omuhle to embrace me, but if hell breaks loose, one way or the other,we will all be affected.

We are all related-aren't we.

• Is the irony lost on you that they are commemorating Nkomo who in the eyes of most ZAPU followers today (those that didn't join ZANU PF) he sold out on the same day Tsvangirayi is about to fall into the same pit? Nkomo the same who was hounded out of the country in a dress. Tsvangirayi who is all but a prisoner in the country as his passport has been denied him for no apparent reason? Nkomo who was forced into the unity accord out of consideration for his murdered brethren in Matebeleland. Compared with tsvangirayi whose followers have been systematically beaten, killed and chased away from their homes for daring to vote MDC?
Nkomo who was made nothing more than a figurehead in govt, ridiculed by Mujuru when he directed her to give Strive Masiyiwa a licence to operate ECONET? Was it not Mujuru's own words that the man is senile? Why is everyone under the assumption Jongwe is sincere in these negotiations? If they love the country so much why did they drive it down through mismanagement in the first place?
Time will tell but ini ndaenda. They are closing in on us now. We know they know about Omuhle and what it is. We even know those who have told them about our mission to expose all. We shall establish ourselves on the other side of the fence and still voice out against the brainwashing and propaganda as peddled by those who benefit from patronage.

• Hama Vadiwa,

Ngatirangarirei magamba ose tisinga vaenzanise nezvigaro zvakakanga vainazvo. Chigaro chikuru-kuru mweya unonzi munhu.

Kukanganisa zvikuru kuti nhingi aiva gamba guru kupfuura nhingi nekuti in the order of the ultimate sacrifice delivery, those who died in direct combat and are in mass and also unmarked graves would actually outscore those who later came home and enjoyed the success while also seeing to the mismanagement of the product.

Ladies and Gentlemen, heroes and heroines are not only the dead, that is a misplaced concept.

We also must remember those who fought tirelessly in any manner possible then who may have failed and never made it to the frontline or those who failed to steer the ship in those waters.

The likes of the younger firebrand politician Eddison Sithole whose death and remains still stand unaccounted for.

A large number of young hopefuls whose lives were lost, cut-short in a new Zimbabwe like Cde Zororo Duri, Cde Border Gezi, Cde Chris Ushewokunze and many more blazing guns.

The out of favour leaders like Ndabaningi Sithole, James Dambaza Chikerema, Abel Muzorewa, Enos Nkala, Chief Kaisa Ndiweni, Chief Jeremaih Chirau, Margaret Dongo, Edgar Twoboy Tekere, Dzingai Mutumbuka and many others whose identities I may not recall but again too numerous to mention.

Yes, let us remember the vilagers who lost all they had, vana Chimbwido naanaMujibha and even vainzi Vatengesi vacho because vamwe vavo vakafira kuvengana mukati memhuri necommunity vasina chavakatengesa.

In fact, let's rejoice that we are Zimbabweans and are about to ressurect our hopes and ideals. That we will let peace, love and prosprity forever dwell in ou midst through the protracted negotiations that have taken and may still have to take place to resolve our differences and come to terms with proper democracy.

Leaders come and go, but the Country remains infinitely.

MuZimbabwe, iwe nei tine basa!

MuZimbabwe, iwe neni tiri magamba! Ngatitorei nzvimbo dzedu.

• I think this article is misleading. does it mean that Joshua Nkomo is the only heroe recognised in Mashonaland Central. Yes he is the greatest so far but lets not forget that there are more than 50 heroes buried there including Takawira(Shumba ya Chirumhanzu), Chitepo, Murenda etc. I hate Mugabe probably more than you (editor), but please give us peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
