UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed Zimbabwe's move to lift suspension on aid agencies' field operations, which have a vital role in the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the African nation.
"This positive development will help ensure that neutral and impartial humanitarian assistance is provided to the people of Zimbabwe," Ban's spokesperson said in a statement.
The Secretary-General also welcomed the Government's invitation to all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private voluntary organisations (PVOs) as well as UN agencies to discuss the operational modalities following the lifting of the suspension, which has been in place since June.
"He would like to emphasise the importance of ensuring that people in need have full access to humanitarian assistance essential to their health and well-being and that humanitarian organisations have full and unhindered access to vulnerable populations in order to carry out vital relief operations," the statement added.
"The United Nations stands ready to work together with the Government and NGO/PVO partners to continue provision of humanitarian assistance in Zimbabwe," the statement issued on Friday noted.

anderson Karidzaura • akaridza@bellsouth.net Subject: The so called NGOs & The UN Chief's Crocodile tears Mon, 01 Sep 2008 04:12:52 • What more proof does the world need, to know that this fellow Ban Ki Moon is only a tool of the western powers? He is worried about the ban slapped on the NGOs by the govt. of Zimbabwe and yet remains mum on the sunctions that made the so called NGOs necessary! What rank hypocrisy. This is the reason why all hell is breaking loose everywhere because the UN is headless.
