Zimbabwean elected MISA vice chairman

Fri, 05 Sep 2008 10:19:00 +0000

THE Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe chairperson Loughty Dube was last week elected unopposed as the regional board‘s Vice Chairperson.

By landing the post Dube automatically becomes the Vice Chairperson of the institute’s powerful regional executive committee.

The elections which were held in Pretoria in South Africa saw Lomcebo Dlamini from Swaziland elected the regional Chairperson after beating Botswana’s Laona Segaetsho in the elections which were supervised by MISA’s Trust Fund Board Members.

Other members of the new regional board whose term of office expires in the year 2010 are Henry Kabwe (Zambia) and Noma Rangana from South Africa.

The elections also coincided with the regional board‘s Annual General Meeting

MISA is made up of 13 countries within the Southern African Development Community.

Speaking from South Africa soon after his election, Dube said his victory is clear evidence of respect and confidence which other journalists have on Zimbabwean scribes.

“This victory is not for me as an individual but for the entire journalism fraternity in the country. It shows that despite all the problems journalists are encountering in this country, journalists across our boarders are fully behind our cause," said Dube.

He becomes the first person to land such a coveted post from Zimbabwe since MISA’ Zimbabwe’s inception in the year 1996.

• Why are you congratulating Dube for being elected to a sellout position in a sellout organisation? What has MISA done for Africans since its inception apart from advancing the interests of Western media moguls bent on mind-controllin Africans. Its actually shame on you Loughty. What does that name mean anyway, Loughty, probably something laughable!
