Mavambo mvt adopts party constitution

Mon, 06 Oct 2008 01:41:00 +0000

FORMER Finance Minister Simba Makoni’s Mavambo/Dawn/Kusile movement last week adopted the proposed party's constitution, policies and principles at a national management committee meeting.

Sources say Dr Makoni confirmed that the name of the party will be the National Alliance for Democracy (NAD) and would be launched at the end of the year.

It is believed that the constitution of the party sets a two five-year term limit for the president following the US style of governance.

Makoni contested the March 29 presidential election as an independent candidate against President Robert Mugabe, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and another independent candidate Langton Towungana and came out third in the poll.

Denford Magora, the movement's spokesperson, in an email to the Zimbabwe Guardian confirmed that consultations were taking place in the movement.

He said the adopted draft constitution and the proposed policies and principles have since been taken to the country's 10 provinces for "further consultation and input" from Mavambo's supporters and members. He added that the constitution will be posted on their website to inform and get feedback from their supporters and stakeholders.

Magora confirmed that all provinces, including the three in Matabeleland that threatened to leave the movement, attended the meeting.

"We are being methodical in our approach because this new party is owned by the people, just as Makoni himself is owned by the people of Zimbabwe," Magora said.

Magora also explained the movement’s role in the new
Zimbabwe. He said, “Our job at Mavambo now is to keep this government honest, to ensure that we focus on the emergency crises facing the nation.”

• It is a well known fact that there is serious money to be made in opposition politics. Look at the MDC-T and their multi-millionaire lifestyles. All one needs to attract the rich international backers to the new party is to incorporate words like democracy and change in the name of the party and then sit back and watch the dollars or euros etc start to roll in. MDC has done it and succeeded in attracting vasts amounts of money and has made some of its members very rich. One can even end up playing Golf with McGee (Guess what from Goat Herder to Playing Golf with the rich and infamous--it can't be that bad). Give Mavambo (like the MDC) an opportunity to also make some serious money for some of its members. There is a new Kid on the block called Mavambo. MDC is now old news.MDC is now like Siberia. Everyone knows where it is by nobody wants to go there.

• The MDC has two important sugar daddies - the US and Britain. Makoni needs to find his own to be widely successful.

• We all know that MDC is the Opposition in government so where does MAVAMBO see itself?

We havent even got up and running with the new Government of Unity yet because any Agreement takes months to agree upon and already there is someone in the wings wanting to rush in and pull the carpet out from under our feet and take us back to square one.
doesnt anyone want to see the country up on its feet for once in 30 years? why must there always be someone focused on negative vibes who is out to destroy anything that any majority is trying to make a success of in Zimbabwe?
I guess if there is money to be made anyone will try to get in on any act that rustles, so money is the root of all evil. tighten your belts now.

• You say Mavambo is trying to raise money, ko MDC yakabva nekupi? Vaita marika moda kuita moga. At least noone is forced to join any political party so the choice rests with individuals. You mention kuti Mavambo will 'bring untold suffering', what suffering could be more than what the MDC endorsed sanctions have caused? ''Munhu rudzii anopisa musha nekuti makapinda nyoka''.
I believe in interlectuals taking their chance. they can work out their own map than be directed by some foreigners whose dogy credentials history has proved.

Siyana nesu tiite yedu party tega ndizvo zvataendera kuhondo izvozvo zve rusununguko in every way possible!

In MDC we just do not critise others for the sack of critising. Give the young guy a chance just like our GNU Prime Minister.

• Now that Tsvangirai has joined hands with Mugabe, I many, many of us welcome Mavambo. I like Magora's statement that Makoni will keep this government honest. Scrutinise this MDC PF, Makoni and Magora. We need a true oposition party now! So hurry up please, we can't wait to join.
Tsvangiai has proved his bad judgement.

• Mavambo is just a party tying to raise money for their cost of living. Guys we have seen these games played in broad day light. You are wasting your time guys. Join hands with Tsvangirai and fight this corrupt, unelected, dectator. Your party will be like the untold sufferings in the police and the Army. It doesn't work Makona.
