Mugabe invites Tsvangirai, Mutambara to form govt

Ralph Mutema

Sat, 20 Dec 2008 11:45:00 +0000

L-R: MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, President Mugabe, Prof Arthur Mutambara

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe has sent letters of invitation to opposition Movement for Democratic Change leaders to join him in an all-inclusive Government.

Speaking at the 10th Zanu PF Conference in Bindura – a town in the province of Mashonaland Central – President Mugabe said he had sent letters to MDC leaders Morgan Tsvangirai and Professor Mutambara and had got a response from “one of the opposition leaders”

"I have sent letters that these two may come and be sworn in but mumwe haasati adzoka (one of them has not responded)," President Mugabe said, in reference to Tsvangirai, who is currently in Botswana where he is a guest of President Khama.

President Mugabe gazetted Constitutional Amendment Number 19 Bill last week paving the way for the formation of an all-inclusive Government.

He said although Tsvangirai remains in Botswana he was hopeful that the power-sharing talks are still progressing.

The MDC-T party has indicated that it will not be part of the Government if some of its demands are met, especially along the allocation of provincial governor posts and the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

President Mugabe also urged Zimbabweans united amidst Western calls for his ouster adding that if the opposition blocked the formation of Government, Zimbabweans will have to go to the polls.

Earlier this week he indicated that he will dissolve Parliament and call fresh elections if the passage of the Bill is blocked in Parliament.

The MDC leader on Friday held a press conference from Gaborone where he indicated that he will not be joining in an all-inclusive Government unless 42 people he said are being held by state agents are released by January 1.

Tsvangirai indicated that he would be willing to go to fresh elections.

President Mugabe took a swipe at the MDC leader for procrastinating on joining Government saying he was waiting for the collapse of Zimbabwe on the advice of his handlers. He said Tsvangirai was a puppet who was “no longer in control of himself”.

President Mugabe said the envisaged collapse was never going to happen and the MDC leader was free to wait for that collapse.

“My view is that those who run the MDC have given the MDC the impression that Zimbabwe is collapsing and the Government will vanish on its own, then you just take over.”

The power-sharing deal signed on September 15 stipulated that Zanu PF would have 15 ministers in the council and the MDC would have 13. Mutambara's MDC group would have three.

My apologies to you sir but my comments are not meant to find favour with you or toe the common line. I am also sorry you believe that anyone who is anti-Mugabe's regime is a puppet of the west. I could in the same breathe also say anyone who is pro-Mugabe is a member of his legendary harem that includes men who fought a liberation war but cannot stand up to his ruinous policies. But that would just be degenerating into chaotic and unstructured name calling. So sticking to the arguments - the west and indeed myslef and other pro-democratic forces have called for Mugabe to step down from power. No one, not even Kgalema has recognised him as president. I can ask you to make use of your perceived grey matter and tell me how may heads of state attended the sham inaugaration in Harare. You can put your spin on it as much as you like but those were not excuses, they were embarassed absences. We ask him to step doen from his undemocratic grab of the highest office in the land.
If you want to debate with me, I am quite prepared to meet you head on as and when you please, provided Itayi has the temerity to publish my comments or he can continue to stifle constructive debate, the same way Mugabe has done within his party and the country as well.........

why cant mdc train its own army and fight mugabe and his allies since they think that in order to lead a country you have to be a revolutionarist,as of now i am prepared to to lose my life for some fearsome zimbabweans, believe me mdc should work up and starts its own revolutionary movement in order to challenge zanu pf on ground.i also want to be included in these set ups of fighting zanu pf,
i am a grandson of njini ntuta the former zipra stalwart who was murdered by zanu[munangagwa, shiri, chiwenga, ishewonkunze the late jus to mention a few]believe me they are going to pay for wat they did to my grandfather as i am vigorous rising, and all those killing innocent citizens are going to feel me as i want everyone to taste his own medicine.

Omuhle the MOU only became a reality when MDC fractions recognised Mugabe as president of Zimbabwe. They are not the same path at all! You will find that if you consult real lawyers, the Zimbabwean Govt does not need to consult anyone to fulfil its legislative duties.

I dont think there were any cows or maize anyway because of sancshuns crippling the country and it was easier to say they have been stolen.
i received a receipt from my son living in SA this week from Pick'nPay Pietersburg charging R27.99 for 1 kg cremora, R18 for Lanolin, R13.29 for tomatoe sauce, 500 grams cornflakes R14.99 Sunlight dishwasher R34.49.
it is not that cheap in SA anymore.
And business entrepreneurs and individuals are using sanctions to rip off the public and crippling our country.

Hey, that's nice sending those invitation letters Robert. So we'll expect those to arrive in the next few months ... maybe? Don't forget, all your services are pretty run down. Does anything work anymore? Maybe best to get your personal chauffeur to deliver them in the big Merc.

Omuhle I think this site is now tired of reading your warped and stupid arguments! You dont seem to understand let alone know that even Tsvangson himself, the British and Americans (your masters) acknowledge that Robert Mugabe is President of Zimbabwe! Thats why they are asking for his ouster from office! You dont ask to remove someone from an office they do not hold! So better try to use that brain you have there, unless of course there is only cotton wool where the grey matter is supposed to be!

Others in the MDC-T have questioned President Mugabe's sincerity in the negotiation process of the power sharing. Now it's time to ask them how committed they are to the deal.

Why did Mr Tsvangirai smile all the way to the signing of the deal?
Does the MDC-T party represent the interests of Zimbabweans on Tswanas?
Is the MDC-T still In or Out?
Do you know of any country that collapsed because of disease?
Is the Constitution for Zanu PF or Zimbabwe?

Keep marching towards the all-inclusive government bearing in mind what MDC-T did yesterday on the signing of CA19.

True Democracy (2008).
God Bless Our Gov. of National Unity.

I don't get it? Mugabe is not at liberty to invite people to govt when it is also this same CA19 that makes him president. So how can people on the same path to leadership be invited by the other?
We don't need elections at all. Let them take over government and the MDC can rule in parliament.
