Japan urges Zimbabwe to form all-inclusive govt

JAPAN has urged Zanu PF and the opposition MDC factions to form the all-inclusive Government after the gazetting of Constitutional Amendment Number 19 Bill and help put to an end the humanitarian and political crisis in the country.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital, Harare the Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Koichi Morita said the inclusive Government is the answer to some of the challenges facing the country and those in the opposition should take up positions they agreed on.
“We urge all the parties in Zimbabwe to form an inclusive Government as agreed on September 15,” said the ambassador.
“My country believes that an inclusive Government is the only answer to the challenges being faced by the people of Zimbabwe,” he added.
Morita, who presented his credentials to President Mugabe in October this year, was referring to the September 15 Global Political Agreement signed by the two formations of the Movement for Democratic Change and the ruling Zanu PF party.
Under the Agreement, the leader of the larger MDC-T formation, Morgan Tsvangirai becomes Prime Minister and Professor Arthur Mutambara of the smaller MDC formation, become Deputy Prime Minister.
At his appointment ambassador Morita urged Harare and London to resolve their dispute for the sake of the Zimbabwean people.
He said the dispute between Britain and Zimbabwe was not insurmountable and expressed optimism that relations between the two countries would normalize in the near future.
Ambassador Morita’s sentiments follow similar echoes by the Sadc Chair, South African President Motlanthe, who said he expected the all-inclusive Government to be formed this week.

It is unfortunate that the British cannot swallow their pride and accept that they erred when they have sorrowful support from political urchins like Meathead who thinks a passport is the most important thing to Zimbabweans. The same thinking that says apply sanctions to make them suffer and die and then we can send in token humanitarian support in order to be seen to be attempting to alleviate the problem we have caused. How can a passport stop someone who has been travelling on the French ambassador's passport (MT is now the French ambassador's minor who has to be included on his passport to facilitate travel) fail to get into Zimbabwe yet has been all over including attending the last EU summit where he readily agreed to the extension of further punitive sanctions against the people he wants to lead! It is such crazy politics of the colonised mind that will keep the Zimbabwean problem on-going when progressive Zimbabweans and neighbouring countries know what is at stake here!

Mon, 22 Dec 2008 06:13:57 • Japan should do better than just urging. First of all, what are the issues threatening the GPA? What has Japan said about them. They could at least have started with the smallest of them all, a simple document called a passport to allow one of the principals to the agreement to come home. Not to only call for a debate about the so called outstanding issues. As long as they keep quiet about them, then they are just making noise..

Subject: Who is America to decide for Africa?
Sun, 21 Dec 2008 19:28:40 • Please allow me to comment on America’s interference in African affairs through Jendayi Frazer’s utterances in the Mail & Guarding (21 December 2008), which quoted her saying that the power sharing process has run its course. This is intended to influence SADC and the Africa Union decisions. America is the greatest threat to African unity.
This confirms President Mugabe’s fear that it is Tsvangirai’s handlers who are not happy with the power sharing deal not himself. In self conscience, this should be haunting him. We now know the real reasons for the MDC-T’s refusal to enter the government of national unity.
The AU have since dismissed such interference by the so-called super powers and the west. Who is America anyway to draw such conclusions for AFRICA? What interests does the US have in Zimbabwe?
America was the world’s largest economy in terms of population and industry, today China is the SUPER POWER. The whole world now knows the US has no savings, but a huge deficit, so were are the dollars?
America was perceived a super power in science all along, No Russia has been the leading SUPER POWER.
Actually, its America that has run its course as the power shifts to the east, the US is now a toothless tiger. This is because it has lost credibility in its Human Rights and democratic record. It is also losing many battles including those against China, Russia and mostly importantly, changes in TIME. It is struggling to live with this reality but has no choice at all.
African institution can no longer be undermined in this way, the AU made it clear in Egypt and the sooner the US recognises this fact the better for our relationship with the next administration.

Subject: Britain and Zimbabwe dialogue
Sun, 21 Dec 2008 17:38:47 • I've always thought that Britain's idea closing any official dialogue with Zimbabwe was very unhelpful and counter productive. Their influence in the conflict has been permanently undermined as they stood a better chance of pulling strings from within. That's why whenever SA or Botswana engages Zimbabwe you hear Britain's prime minister or foreign secretary suggesting what they should say to Mugabe. Now they realize their mistake but can't stand the perceived humiliation of giving in first to the stand off.
