TINASHE Nengomasha’s absence from the squad announced by the new Zimbabwe Warriors coach, Valinhos was conspicuous as the grit midfielder is one of the best Zimbabwean players in the South African premiership today.
He is the vital cog in the Kaizer Chiefs machine.
Other players who are doing very well, as the South African premiership season reaches its half way mark, are Nengomasha’s team mate Onismo Bhasera as well as the pair of Peter Ndlovu and Esrom Nyandoro who are at flamboyant club Mamelodi Sundowns.
Worst Zimbabwean players in South Africa are Ralph Matema, Evans Gwekwerere, Bheki Ndlovu and Alois Ngwerume.
Nengomasha has been categorised under dirty players in the South African premiership by the South African weekly soccer tabloid, Soccer laduma as shown by the following tabular information:
Dirty Players
Player
Club
Fouls
1. Teko Modise
Orlando Pirates
25
2. Dale Studzinski
Wits
23
3. Morgan Gould
Cosmos
20
4. James Mayinga
Moroka Swallows
20
5. Tinashe Nengomasha
Kaizer Chiefs
20
6. Tseko Ramokala
Platinum Stars
20
A literary interpretation of this table will show that Nengomasha is a bad player given the number of fouls he commits on average, but a philosophical interpretation will show that this is the kind of player every team will need and the warriors team is poorer without “the father” given his grittness and work rate.
The holding role requires a lot of physical and mental stamina and so the best players for this role are those who can play dirty when the going gets tough. This is why Michael Essien is great today, this is why Patrick Vieira is great today and so is Claude Mkhalele.
Despite this dirty player label by Soccer laduma Nengomasha is rated highly at Amakhosi and is one of those players, coach Muhsin Ertugal would not want to miss in his team, Valinhos needs him too. Nyandoro is too soft for the holding role although he is good as a central midfielder.
This explains why he is the top goal scorer at Mamelodi Sundowns and is also among those chasing the golden boot in the South African premiership as shown below:

But i disagree wit your view on Nyandoro. I think he can hold the midfield, depending on who will play the centre. Gidiza is out. Chimedza is played further up. Maybe Honour Gombami will be used there. But if you check at Sundowns, Nyandoro gets upfront a lot because Benson Mhlongo goes in frequently, and Sapula keeps position. So Esrom can combine with Surprise Moriri and venture up. I think Warriors coaches have always failed to combine Nengoe with Esrom. But I would have prefered Valinhos to use Father as a holding midfielder, Esrom a central one, then give Honour the third striker role, with Chimedza operating as a Roberto Carlos on the left. But who will play our Cafu role?
