IF this is not one of the most disturbing interviews by an opposition leader, I don’t know what is. If this the calibre of our future leaders, God forbid, what kind of society are we creating?
The self-contradictions, twists and turns and knee-jerk statements are mind-boggling.
Tendai shoots himself in the foot more than once in this interview.
Let’s debate honestly.
Violet Gonda talks to Tendai Biti on SW Radio Africa’s Hot Seat Programme
Jimmy • n/a Subject: Editorial bias Mon, 28 Apr 2008 15:31:26 • Has the Zimbabwe Guardian already transformed into an opposition mouth piece, seeing as it is the slant towards Zanu PF?
Zvinaiye • zvinaiye@gmail.com Subject: Blundering Fool! Sun, 27 Apr 2008 20:57:02 • God help us! Honestly, if this is the kind of leadership the MDC have to offer, our troubles are only just beginning. Clueless, crass and politically very green, this man is a plane crash waiting to happen.
n/a • n/a Subject: n/a Sun, 27 Apr 2008 15:32:11 • By comparing MDC to ZAPU, Biti makes a mockery of the contribution of ZAPU to Zimbabwe's liberation. ZAPU did not have confused people like Tsvangirai and Biti. They we driven not by greed for personal glory, but by the emancipation of their people. ZAPU got glory because they fought for a worthy cause. Biti and Tsvangirai on the other hand, are looking for glory and then fumbling about to find out what cause might give them that glory. It doesn't work that way. As a result, Biti and Tsvangirai act confused. Isn't there anyone out there with close family links to these two to take them aside for a moment and knock some sense into their heads?
Furthermore, Biti must note that ZAPU merged with ZANU PF. ZANU did not destroy ZAPU. ZAPU was too worthy, too powerful to be destroyed. The fact that Robert fought a few criminal dissidents does not mean that he obliterated ZAPU. The true ZAPU was far removed from dissidentry.

While Biti rants on about MDC's meetings with Dhlakama and Raila Odinga, Violet does not ask Biti about the criminal past of these peolpe. Dhlakama used to butcher people in Mutare, thanks to Bob for putting an end to that. Just recently, Raila's supporters butchered Kikuyu's for stealing their presidential election. Of course, as usual, our calculating Odinga blamed it all on everyone else. For a party purporting to be standing for democratic change, you would expect the interviewer to query the dodgy relationships that MDC is developing with the Raila's e.t.c.
Biti states that Zimbabwe is a war zone. In the very same interview, he says something like where else is there inflation running at 16500% in a country without war. So Biti, which is which? Are we in a war zone or not? If we were, you would not contradict yourself in the same 30-minute interview.
Violet avoids mentioning to Biti the fact that MDC's own figures show that they won less that 50% of the vote. Instead, she takes Biti claims about MDC's outright win as true fact. Of course I am not denying that Morgan beat President Mugabe.
In all Biti and Morgan public statements, one gets the impression that Mugabe won the equivalent of Towungana's votes. And yet MDC's own figures show that the man won in escess of 40%.
Biti labours the point that about Mugabe being too old, calling himself a great-great grandchild of Mugabe's generation. Chembere yakadaro uri great-great grandchild kuita sei?
For me, the worst madness of Morgan and Biti is demonstrated by their shameful disprespect for Mbeki. Could someone remind them that Mbeki was a mere mediaitor, not a spokesperson for the MDC? It's not Mbeki's fault that both President Mugabe and Morgan don't agree on anything.
What the self-hating leaders of the MDC (Mentally Deluded by Colonialists) are doing IS NOT for the Well-being, Progress and Prosperity of Zimbabweans.
The self-hating.agents of European colonialists are doing the devils work!
The MDC are doing the work of racist anti-African forces.
In addition, the leaders of MDC are PURSUING POWER MERELY FOR THE SAKE OF POWER! They are power gluttons. That is why Zim Patriots will resist this new generation of self-hating traitors.
Zimbabwe needs to be Self-determined, Self-developed, Self-sufficient and Self-reliant! And it will!
The lost leaders of the MDC and servants of the European racists are allowing themselves to be used for the purpose of DIVIDE & RULE bythe domineering and anti-African colonialists of Europe.
The lost leaders of the MDC are playing the same divisive and self-destructive roles that their traitorous parents played on behalf of the invading thieves and racist murderers of rhodesia!
The lost leaders of the MDC are just another generations of the traitors, who fought against Africans, when proud Africans sought to liberate themselves from the colonizing devils of Europe.
Oliver Mtyambizi • omutyambizi@yahoo.co.uk Subject: RUBISH Sat, 26 Apr 2008 18:07:12 • This man is no different from Pius Ncube.Honestly speaking he has not answered any question correctly. The only good thing is he acknowledged the battle of democracy at pre-independence though he does not seem to know that the zim independence came in 1980.By saying He is a grand, grand, grand son of Mugabe is not only ludicrous, but very childish and foolish politics.Telling us a reckless statement that Raila Odinga said Africa has no place for a dinosaur like Mugabe is pre-emptying the roles played by our fellow comrades during the armed struggle.I have never listened to a contradicting speach like this in my entire life
Omugabe • dziva@sanandresano.com Subject: Africa for Africans Sat, 26 Apr 2008 17:11:25 • THANKS FOR THE AUDIO!
WHO IS FUNDING THE TRIPS OF THESE DISRESPECTFUL & TREASONOUS TRAITORS ALL OVER THE PLACE?
The racist European enemies of Africa are funding DIVIDE AND RULE AMONG AFRICANS!
Zim Patriots will show constraints against fellow Africans, even show constraint against those who are self-hating traitors and servants/slaves of Europeans.
Have just listened to your speech and you were rabbiting on about that ship and its cargo of arms, and you emphatically stated.
NO AFRICAN COUNTRY COULD GRANT IT THER RIGHT TO HARBOUR - THIS IS A REFLECTION OF THE CAPACITY OF THE REGION...etc.
Well, I think you just shot yourself in the foot because the one African country that has welcomed the ship ashore with both hands is none other than our SADC member Angola - but, then again, they have elections in September eh? (Watch the eyes of the West swivelling onto Angola then, and forget about Zimbabwe!)
Furthermore, how dare you minimise the importance of a man's standing because he is a doctor, or an engineer, and he is now waiting on tables in a foreign country. So what? Who exactly do you think you are, heh?
Men and women are working hard in a country that subjects foreigners to its own forms of racism to support their families at home because you and your party have called for sanctions and you are now calling for even more.
Stop belittling our efforts in the diaspora - it is us doctors and engineers working our butts off in cafes who are funding your gallavanting all over like a chicken with its head off!
Diddley Squat, Tasmania • na Subject: REMEMBER, QUIET DIPLOMACY RULES. Sat, 26 Apr 2008 14:48:19 • A word of warning TB - when I lived in the country of Rhodesia-Zimbabwe, one lesson I learned is that Africans will always tell you what they think you want to hear - because the last thing they want to do is to offend you - not what you should really be hearing, i.e. the truth.
So therefore, TB, I would take all the patting on the shoulders and the smiles and the results of your conversations with our neighbours with a pinch of salt, because they were only telling you that which they thought you wanted to hear, to pacify you and get back to their own problems.
Remember, you only represent - 50% of the country and basically the - 50% only voted for you because they thought you would be able to cancel sanctions, yet now you are calling for even more sanctions?
All you are doing to Zimbabwe is dividing the country - it was never apparent before who our village idiots were, but thanks to the heirarchy of MDC this is now fast becoming apparent.
Musa • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 14:15:20 • Very honourable Garande to pose these questions when everyone thinks it's fashionable to criticise President Mugabe. Real questions still need posing, regardless. I support the MDC, but I recognise Zanu PF's struggle. I'm just not happy with corrupt individuals in the party, but that doesn't mean I should disrespect a hero like Mugabe. I would put him at heroes' acre even if Zanu PF was to be out of power.
Bruce Nyakazembe • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 14:12:20 • Biti has been in every opposition political party: Tekere's ZUM, Dumbutshena's Forum Party, and now MDC. These three parties had different manifestos and different backgrounds. What is common between Tekere, Dumbutshena and Tsvangirai that attracts Biti? How come he is the common denominator? I smell power hunger, unfortunately. Dictators are made out of power hunger. See how he becomes conspicuous and unreasonable when he smells power. He was conciliatory during negotiations in SA.
Comrade Famba Famba • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:42:53 • Itayi Garande, I have to say you are one brave young man who has seen how the 'invisible' or the 'now visible' western influence is trying to destroy our spirit. You have provided a platform that has easily become one of the best talking points and conscientisation arenas in the Zimbabwean struggle. I came here by chance a few months ago and I knew something was up. I thought you were an old man. I was thoroughly impressed by the depth of your analysis. You have refused to go with the grain and start a war against your heroes. You have truly read and understood the struggles that we are all going through. I just hope that you can have a lot more like minded young people who are willing to delve deeper and understand the pain that we went through fighting for this country. We have made our mistakes, but that will not take away the pain and the importance of that struggle. The next generations can mend those mistakes, but they have to learn the ways of the devil, of the coloniser. They have to know what to do when evil stares you in the eye. Unfortunately, the west has used the economic strangulation to advance their interests. We knew this would happen. This is something you can't exactly prepare for unless you have friends and unless your people can support you and see through evil. The MDC has given the colonists a new voice, a new image and hope in our lands. I say please don't stop, continue with this fight and let others know the Zimbabwean story.
James Midzi • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:26:20 • This is a do or die situation for Biti who can't go back to law. His career as a lawyer is finished. This is all he can hold on to. As for Morgan, we all know his demise as an unlearned leader? Like the other writer said, he shld learn from people like Welshman and Simba Makoni who are probably doing more work in closed doors.
Muchi • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:23:54 • I see a lot of Zanu PF apologists here. Why does the editor bother with these people? Unbvelievable that some people still support Mugabe when the economy has gone to the dogs.
Mutsawashe Nyoni • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:22:10 • Why does Biti think the whole of Zimbabwe supports the MDC? If we agree that 49.3 percent voted the MDC, so President Mugabe still commands half the vote. So what does he mean by 'the people have spoken'? His half has spoken. What about the other half? Biti wake up, don't sleep in broad daylight. Read Manheru today, lest you forget. Haufe wakaba nyika Biti. Uchati papara papara ukaneta, pamwechete neSadc yako iyoyo.

The guy goes on like a madman with a microphone. The language is uncouth and the manner stinks. Violet should have asked him why he was trivialising Zimbabwe's liberation war, by mocking President Mugabe. Surely this can't be allowed. The man has gone berserk.

His extreme views are detrimental to Zimbabwe. He is still in student mode and that is dangerous. he says he knows every prison in Zimbabwe? Does he know Chikurubi. At the rate he is going Chikurubi could be his new home. My advice: tone down, learn a few things from Welshman, Makoni, etc. While you are at it, learn to pronounce words and use simple effective language. you impress no-one with mavhoko asina basa.
n/a • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:08:10 • Well said Biti. the struggle continues.
Nyasha • n/a Subject: n/a Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:06:09 • Threat to peace indeed. Biti should shut up. He risks any future negotiation. He should also be reminded that' To every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. When you disrespect President Mugabe like that, don't expect civility from him. You have been warned.
Peter Chimutsa • peterchimutsa@yahoo.com Subject: National threat to peace Sat, 26 Apr 2008 13:03:42 • Oh my God, I couldn't believe it. Tendai Biti is directly saying there will be war in Zimbabwe supported by African states. This guy is the most serious security threat we have in Zimbabwe. I COULD NOT believe what I was hearing. He also contradicted himself on Mbeki. Which is which Biti? What exactly was President Mbeki supposed to do. He's giving you the right to stay in SA and you say all this s*** about him. I can't understand you. And you talk to the Democratic Alliance? Who are these people? What is their interest in Zimbabwe to give ZEC an ultimatum? Someone with a name like Botha should just shut up. They should focus on SA not Zimbabwe. What exactly is an opposition SA party like the DA looking for in Zimbabwe. Put a Right Wing thinking party in Zimbabwe and SA and bring back the white colonists in the region? These MDC guys forget that Zimbabwe was fought for, not given on a silver platter. If I were Mugabe today, I would rig that election 100% and continue the Chimurenga III, rather than sellout to Morgan and his Right Wing elements. What was Nyadzonia for? What was Chimurenga I and II for. Biti, you risk a lot of out stupidity. You need some international diplomatic experience before you utter nonsense. This is not student UZ politics. This is a matter of life and death and irresponsible individuals like you cannot be trusted with the struggle-the struggle for Zimbabwe, not your narrow struggles for power.
