HELLO folks it’s Ikereflections, I am guesting for my twin Esau who is either on holiday or sulking, one of the two! So welcome to World Ikereflections, myself wandering out loud, sometimes talking to trees.
The other day I was pouring out about how proud I am to be Zimbabwean. I a’int going back on my word. I have another good reason today and it’s certainly not Chinotimba. It’s the soulful brother Audius Mtawarira whose bender release A Day Like This , makes it criminal for any self respecting Zimbabwean who loves music not to share. I bought the album from cdbaby.
For the uninitiated, Audius is world class R&B crooner based in Australia whose claim to fame includes selling more than 100 000 units of his debut album in his native Zimbabwe, co-writing and producing Born To Try, sang by Delta Goodrem which reached number two in UK charts.
For the busy bodies, Delta Goodrem is now hitched to the Irish runaway Brian McFadden who not only broke ranks with his boy band group Westlife, but ditched his mother of two wife, Kerry Katona (former Atomic Kitten and winner of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here 2004, herself later got hitched with a cabbie who later cheated on when she was pregnant with their baby).
OK, enough of that gibberish for one day.
Never mind, Ex-Que. Audius is exclusive talent, exquisite in the real sense of the word. There just is no comparison on the Zimbabwean scene and even the world. My favourite on the album is Run Away. I have listened to this song a countless number of times and I must say it comes with a serious health and safety warning.
If you haven’t been very successful on the love front like myself, it will have you palpitating and hyperventilating within seconds, thinking of all those “wasted” years when she said she would never leave you but then later thought it a darn good idea to say goodbye anyway and chuck you after all. (Sniff, sniff. Ok let me clear the water out first).
Damn you Audius, you shouldn’t be doing these things to us!
The danceable tune ‘Let It Knock’ is good to go for the dance floor. The way Audius blends his melodies with his mercurial guest rapper (tell me, who is this boy rapper?) Zimbabwean style can be imitated but never intimidated.
The sound is not the fake stuff churned out by the Roki-like wannabes. Its solid gold from the top shelf. D.J. Oskido is mentioned on in there!
And guess what, this is one for the ladies too. I can picture the ebonylicious sisters hitting the dance floor shaking it big time.
Chorus
I got a little bit of song for you girl.
A little bit of song for you girl.
Tell what does it do for you girl?
What Does it do for you girl?
Take Me Back is a laid back track, that’s asking lovers to reminisce. Overall the album is one for the lovers smitten and ditched alike.
Kudos for nothing really to Channel O for botching Audius’s maiden performance in the UK by not securing his VISA. I was looking forward to this! My issue with Audius is this. What the hell is he doing in Australia? Of course he is doing music but why in Australia? Even the glitterati of Australia jumped ship and went overseas. The Bee Gees? Pete Waterman [judge on the defunct Pop Idol [replaced by The X-Factor] and one of the famous trio of Stock-Aitken & Waterman in UK ) paved the way by nicking Kylie Minogue. Michael Hutchins and INXS, Jason Donavan, Danni Minogue, Holly Valance, the list is endless. Give us a break Audius and come to stay in the UK or go to the US. We want to see you break the ceiling and start selling millions for yourself and us. Because that’s what you, we deserve.
