What life has taught me

Thu, 27 Mar 2008 03:47:00 +0000

I BELIEVE that with each day of our lives, something happens that will cause us to pause for a minute and reflect. It may be the sound of thunder, the ray of sunlight, heartbreak or loss that will call upon this occasion.

Whatever it may be, it will change our world. It is usually during these times of reflection, that there is clarity, wisdom and lessons that will help us to create a new path for our life journey. Those become our life lessons, the many things that make us become a new person. These are some of mine.

You have to be alone

You can never know yourself, unless you spend time with you. You have to realize that you are the first friend you have. Being alone will drown every voice and every noise. It will strip you bare and it will task you to dig deep into your soul and inspect the good, the bad and the ugly of who you are.

Being alone will give you honesty and love for yourself. It will teach you that as much as you may seem alone, you have the closeness of your own spirit with you. You will find strength in your loneliness, love and some great company. If you don’t know yourself, then no one will know you fully. Being alone will let you see the side you never thought existed.

You will define who you really are in being alone.

There will be scars

With each new experience that you will have, something is going to be left behind. You will find joy and sorrow. Sorrow brings some scars. Scars, sometimes, are signs of battles that you fought and won. In life you will have to fight something. If you don’t fight, then it means you will most likely surrender and be defeated. Your scars will be your victory and each scar represents an obstacle that you have overcome.

You will fall

There’ll come a time when you will fall. It may be a very short fall .Or for some; it will be falling to deep depths. Either way, you will fall. When you fall, it may be in a hole dug by others. For some, it may be falling in a hole that they dug themselves. What’s important is what you do after the fall. You will have to decide whether or not you are going to get up with wisdom and caution from the fall or just decide to bury yourself in the hole.

Reason

There will be a reason for everything that you do. Nothing will be done just because it can be done. You cannot wake up in the morning just because you can wake up. You will wake up because you have a reason for waking up. You will not breathe and live just because you can do it. You will have cause to live everyday and breathe a breath of air. There will be a reason why there is joy or sorrow in your heart. You will not love, laugh or cry because you can. It will not be done for nothing. Everything will have a reason.

You live and learn

You will celebrate with each victory and cry with each lost cause. At the end of it all, you will learn something. Life is about living and learning everyday.

So much more

With all you see, you get to realize something. There’s got to be more to life than living your life with grudges, animosity and sadness. We only live once. That once in a lifetime chance will not come again. You have to begin to live in the right now. You have to begin enjoying every hour, every minute and second of your present. You have to let go of the past, embrace your present and welcome the future.

Life will begin to have more meaning than ever before.
