Makoni is a chancer and his political foundation is flawed
ZIMBABWEANS, lest we forget:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principals and organizing its powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.”
I deeply share in the agony and anguish of citizens of Zimbabwe over the untold hardships we have been subjected to in recent days. The ruthlessly exploitation of power and maladministration.
The quest for a democratic government and true leadership has been thwarted repeatedly in history and it seems a new chapter has begun.
The people of Zimbabwe despite the desperate situation they find themselves faced with, should stand firm and consider their political allegiance carefully. It’s about our future, and that of unborn children, of our country.
It has to be with sound reasoning and clear consciousness that we vote for a leader whom we believe houses the virtues a leader should possess in every aspect.
We should vote for a leader willing to face the enemy from the onset and denounce their faith from day one and declare that they are willing to go their own way because they want to be advocates of democracy and justice. That leader should be willing to remain patriotic as much as possible without fear. Leaders should not be cowards who emerge some few days before the Election Day.
Zimbabwe needs both a party and a leader that can display commitment to rebuilding the economy and establishing and demonstrating sound democratic principles for the betterment of the country. As a Zimbabwean, I strongly disagree with the notion that Dr Makoni is fit for purpose. Zimbabwe needs strong leadership not chancers meddling with Zimbabweans emotions, fears and political traumas.
How could a man, who after spending the better side of 15 years enjoying the comfort availed to him by Zanu PF, defect and two months before the election date state he is going to stand as an independent presidential candidate?
The amount of dishonesty and exploitation demonstrated — whether towards Zanu PF or not — just goes to show that the recent presidential candidate will have a lot of skeletons which he would rather conceal.
Technically, this means that he is capable of misdirecting the nation and will fail to show any transparency.
Dr Simba Makoni, who in my opinion and based on recent speeches, believes strongly in the politics of revenge than of reconciliation, stands at many a gathering telling the people of Zimbabwe that he can lead the country.
How would that be practical, that someone without tried and test political integrity and credentials, faith or patriotic and political abilities, have the guts to claim that he can revamp the economy of Zimbabwe in 100 days?
He does not relate to ordinary Zimbabweans because he was under the wings of the ruling Zanu PF party and never at all voiced his concerns — which is a desperate reflection that he is serving his self interest and not the interests of the people of Zimbabwe.
He really must be taking the people of Zimbabwe for a joke.
He thinks, he can rescue the situation just like Moses did, when he led the people of Israel from Egypt to Canaan, but, in this case, without demonstrated faith and abilities Dr Makoni has got a long way to go..
These are really bad times for Zimbabwe, especially, when there has been a lot going on political and economically. It’s not the desire to lead, but the qualities of a leader that play a vital part in the leadership election process.
Our desire to have things done quickly prevents their execution from being carried out diligently. Looking at small advantages prevents great affairs from being accomplished.
We have been through this road before when we elected President Mugabe again and again into power, now if we vote blindly we will underline the fact that the 29th of March really is an Electoral procession for Mugabe as his is bound to face a weak and divided field, more so a nation so weak patriotically that he can manipulate us at will.
I still believe there is a lot more going for Movement for Democratic Change (Tsvangirai) than there is for Dr Makoni. Movement for Democratic Change was and still is arguably the greatest Opposition party to have ever risen in Zimbabwe.
Although for the past couple of months its political fate has reeling under severe factionalism that is this being caused by politicians who take politics for a game and their self-confidence retreating to self-harm - sad they will be just fallen heroes.
Something is wrong with Dr Simba Makoni's foundation politically.

Its Morgan Tsvangirai who flattered people at the launch of his presidential manifesto that he would mend the economy within 100 days??? Much as the author's assertion was meant to denigrate Simba Makoni, it has exposed the blatant ignorance of both Morgan Tsvangirai and his representatives, the author included. One of the monumental weaknesses of the MDC since formation has been that they are both politically and intellectually challenged. I have listened to interviews given by some MDC officials and have honestly found it difficult to keep a straight face. Their knowledge of the country's history, issues of the economy, etc is very limited. I do respect however the role that the MDC has played in altering the political landscape in Zimbabwe but it may be taking a gamble entrusting them with steering the country politically and economically.

You are probably expecting someone from heaven to rescue you from Mugabe, we all know the MDC has failed to redress the situation with the excuse of vote rigging, intimidation, uneven playing field etc. People do not eat excuses, but want results. Nobody will care if there is rigging as long as there is an improvement to their lives... and Mugabe himself is capable of providing that change. You may disagree, but this is the truth.
