DEAR EDITOR — THE Movement for Democratic Change party has failed to unseat President Mugabe, whether we believe that they are being rigged or not. Their strategy, whatever it is, will never deliver change to Zimbabwe and their leadership should just concede that they will probably never be able to bring change to our beautiful country.
Morgan Tsvangirai despite his calls for electoral victory has failed dismally in becoming the conduit of change; peaceful change in Zimbabwe. In a nutshell, he simply can’t be the next President of Zimbabwe — regardless of what the reason for this is.
His puppetry image and his failure to connect with liberation war heroes and respect the spirit within which the Chimurenga wars were fought; still remain as the most conspicuous failures of this man; and is also the reason why the current government will never concede defeat to him; they feel that they will be selling out — selling out to Mbuya Nehanda and Sekuru Kaguvi; and to all those sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives in the previous two Chimurengas.
MDC's attempts at downplaying the liberation struggles have backfired and as Mugabe says: He will never rule Zimbabwe, and we all know that and the sooner we look for new alternatives, the better, otherwise we are fighting a lost battle
I do not see the Zanu PF government selling out, by conceding defeat to a man of Morgan Tsvangirai’s calibre. We all have to accept that, although we really wanted this man, to be the 'saviour', we have to agree that he simply will not be the change agent we seek in Zimbabwe.
His party has won many votes, through protest — against Mugabe’s rule. The sanctions regime instituted by Western countries has turned Zimbabwean people against their own government. In essence, Morgan has rode on this sanctions regime for a long time and is part and parcel of the architecture that has destroyed, not only the image, but the economy of Zimbabwe.
All clear thinking Zimbabweans, who dare delve deeper into our country’s problems, will realise that the country started experiencing real problems in 1997. Why 1997? Why 17 years after independence? If Mugabe was such a monster, I’m sure he would have destroyed the country in that first 17 years.
Many Zimbabweans who choose to thinking using their backsides blame their own government rather than look at the events that have taken place in the country since 1997, when the evil Tony Blair government denied responsibility for killing close to 50 000 innocent black people in Zimbabwe and millions across the world.
The British are taking Zimbabweans for a ride. They have taken Zimbabweans for a ride for too long and it is only fair that Zimbabwe remains resolute and steadfast in resolving its own issues internally.
The mischievous groups of white farmers were given enough leverage and time to negotiate a smooth transition and handover of some of their farms, by then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe. I was working in the civil service then and I remember the Commercial Farmers’ Union resisting any change that Mugabe proposed. They put Mugabe on the defensive all the time when it came to the land question; and blatantly blocked any government move at redistribution.
Today, after realising that the left it way too late, they have the audacity to say, “There’s enough land for everyone.” Why didn’t they say it in 1992 when Mugabe met with them over land? They were arrogant and wanted to remain on the land.
Now it’s too late.
Also white commercial farmers should realise that they violently confiscated farming lands from black people even as late as the mid 1970s. Some of the generations moved from their ancestral lands are still alive today. These generations were put into Tribal Trust Lands and ‘Keeps’ away from fertile land. No one in the world cared.
The white farmers did not know how to farm then. They had to learn, it took a long time. So why should black people be expected to know how to farm in eight years? We will learn. It is a revolution and things will improve.
So Tsvangirai and his bunch of white farmers should all emigrate to Zambia or Nigeria where their likes have emigrated to; or recognise the contributions made by the liberators and be more responsible in their manner of talk and how they try to unseat a liberation war party.
Zimbabwean lands will never be handed over back to these unpatriotic characters, who only sought to enrich themselves at the expense of the black population. We will suffer. We have suffered for the last century trying to find a white imperialist bunch to get the land. I sleep easy every night knowing that the problems we face today will disappear, not matter how long it takes.
Soon we will start to see a black landlord ferrying white farm workers to his farm; and paying them in kind (using grain, etc as pay) as they used to do to our forefathers and our fathers.
And Britain and USA should know that we will take our time to count our own ballots. It’s none of their business. We will criticise ourselves, and we really do not need their fake moral authority and moral superiority.
