MDC has failed to unseat Mugabe

Jonathan Nyashanu — Opinion

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 00:04:00 +0000

DEAR EDITOR — THE Movement for Democratic Change party has failed to unseat President Mugabe, whether we believe that they are being rigged or not. Their strategy, whatever it is, will never deliver change to Zimbabwe and their leadership should just concede that they will probably never be able to bring change to our beautiful country.

Morgan Tsvangirai despite his calls for electoral victory has failed dismally in becoming the conduit of change; peaceful change in Zimbabwe. In a nutshell, he simply can’t be the next President of Zimbabwe — regardless of what the reason for this is.

His puppetry image and his failure to connect with liberation war heroes and respect the spirit within which the Chimurenga wars were fought; still remain as the most conspicuous failures of this man; and is also the reason why the current government will never concede defeat to him; they feel that they will be selling out — selling out to Mbuya Nehanda and Sekuru Kaguvi; and to all those sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives in the previous two Chimurengas.

MDC's attempts at downplaying the liberation struggles have backfired and as Mugabe says: He will never rule Zimbabwe, and we all know that and the sooner we look for new alternatives, the better, otherwise we are fighting a lost battle

I do not see the Zanu PF government selling out, by conceding defeat to a man of Morgan Tsvangirai’s calibre. We all have to accept that, although we really wanted this man, to be the 'saviour', we have to agree that he simply will not be the change agent we seek in Zimbabwe.

His party has won many votes, through protest — against Mugabe’s rule. The sanctions regime instituted by Western countries has turned Zimbabwean people against their own government. In essence, Morgan has rode on this sanctions regime for a long time and is part and parcel of the architecture that has destroyed, not only the image, but the economy of Zimbabwe.

All clear thinking Zimbabweans, who dare delve deeper into our country’s problems, will realise that the country started experiencing real problems in 1997. Why 1997? Why 17 years after independence? If Mugabe was such a monster, I’m sure he would have destroyed the country in that first 17 years.

Many Zimbabweans who choose to thinking using their backsides blame their own government rather than look at the events that have taken place in the country since 1997, when the evil Tony Blair government denied responsibility for killing close to 50 000 innocent black people in Zimbabwe and millions across the world.

The British are taking Zimbabweans for a ride. They have taken Zimbabweans for a ride for too long and it is only fair that Zimbabwe remains resolute and steadfast in resolving its own issues internally.

The mischievous groups of white farmers were given enough leverage and time to negotiate a smooth transition and handover of some of their farms, by then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe. I was working in the civil service then and I remember the Commercial Farmers’ Union resisting any change that Mugabe proposed. They put Mugabe on the defensive all the time when it came to the land question; and blatantly blocked any government move at redistribution.

Today, after realising that the left it way too late, they have the audacity to say, “There’s enough land for everyone.” Why didn’t they say it in 1992 when Mugabe met with them over land? They were arrogant and wanted to remain on the land.

Now it’s too late.

Also white commercial farmers should realise that they violently confiscated farming lands from black people even as late as the mid 1970s. Some of the generations moved from their ancestral lands are still alive today. These generations were put into Tribal Trust Lands and ‘Keeps’ away from fertile land. No one in the world cared.

The white farmers did not know how to farm then. They had to learn, it took a long time. So why should black people be expected to know how to farm in eight years? We will learn. It is a revolution and things will improve.

So Tsvangirai and his bunch of white farmers should all emigrate to Zambia or Nigeria where their likes have emigrated to; or recognise the contributions made by the liberators and be more responsible in their manner of talk and how they try to unseat a liberation war party.

Zimbabwean lands will never be handed over back to these unpatriotic characters, who only sought to enrich themselves at the expense of the black population. We will suffer. We have suffered for the last century trying to find a white imperialist bunch to get the land. I sleep easy every night knowing that the problems we face today will disappear, not matter how long it takes.

Soon we will start to see a black landlord ferrying white farm workers to his farm; and paying them in kind (using grain, etc as pay) as they used to do to our forefathers and our fathers.

And Britain and USA should know that we will take our time to count our own ballots. It’s none of their business. We will criticise ourselves, and we really do not need their fake moral authority and moral superiority.

Subject: Utter and unmitigated desperation

• In recent days we have been subjected to so-called intercepted letters from the MDC to who so ever. These are interesting times we are living in indeed.

The regime calls for elections with the full hope that they will win, because they have all these years believed their own lies that they are still popular, even in the rural areas, nothwithstanding the fact that the opposition was barred from openly campaigning in these rural areas.

Now the reality has dawned that they have been living this lie all along, and they don't know what' hit them. A hard lesson has been learnt, that once just a bit of democratic space is opened to these MDC guys, they indeed will take you to the cleaners in any election hands down.

So what do they do? better stop the whole election process before its too late, reverse whatever MDC has won, and concoct all sorts of lies, imaginary correspondence with forged signatures etc. At the same time its back to the old tactics of so-called war veterans, green bombers, Chewengas, Shiris and Chihures. These have surely proven all these years that they do win the day for the OLD RHODESIAN TERRORISTS as Ian Smith called them, he was indeed correct - they are terrorists not liberators. For them spreading terror wins the day!

But please people don't despair for we still have our true heroes of the liberation struggle in Wilfred Mhanda, Max Mnkandla, Simba Makoni and Dabengwa. They have said the struggle long went off the rails. They know better. We all know this talk about the west, the British etc is just what it is, diversionary tactics. These guys have in the last 28 years looted the nations resources, each one of them has an average of about three to four farms, they have killed 20 000 Mthwakazi people, displaced 700 000 people from their shacks and homes in the name of murambatsvina, destroyed agriculture, wiped out the education and health systems.

They have annahilated more black Zimbabweans than what Ian Douglas Smith ever tried to do or ever thought could be possible. They have indoctrinated young children of ages 15 years, 19 years, 22 years into believing they can do whatever they like whithout facing the long arm of the law. To day these children rape and bit up old people who could be their parents. Dagga smoking, excessive drinking and casual sex is encouraged as long as it is done to facilitate Zanu PF's objectives. They are the Banyamulenga of Zimbabwe.

In the meantime Mugabe's own children are well protected from the rough and tumble of Zanu PF politics out there. They have the best clothing, food, education and leave in a Castle. The Zanu PF Minister's children are all pursuing the best education and experiencing excellent health facilities, in enemy territories, the West, that is.

Ian Smith and his Rhodesian Front for all their sins never sank to such garbage levels of treating blacks like animals, scarvenging for food. In any case, the mistreatment of blacks by Ian Smith and his government was understandable because he was white. But how do you explain the mistreatment of black people by a black leader of a black government. Ian Smith protected his white people fiercely, and they lived one of the highest standards of living in this world. Can the same be said about Robert Mugabe and his so called black government, does he protect the black Zimbabwean more than the whiite man? Today blacks are worse off than they ever were under white rule.

These are the facts and facts are stubborn. I say carry on MDC, carry own Tsvangirayi and continue to deal with the west at our pleasure. Let the Chinese puppets in Harare enjoy their puppetry whilst it lasts. Tsvangirayi, you are only 56, the Chinese puppet is 84 - whether he likes it or not, nature is about to take its course. Unless they assassinate you, young as you are, you and the MDC are here to stay unlike the Chinese puppets and their Chinese puppet party, whose well being and continued existence depends on an 84 year old geriatric puppet leader, whose days on this earth are numbered. We all know the Chinese puppet party will never survive after the geriatric is gone, that is why they just cannot find a young leader to keep it going. Zanu PF as a Chinese puppet party, your future is doomed - you will be lucky to remain intact in the opposition ranks. That is why they are refusing with the Presidential election results, because they can only survive by being in power and under the 84 year old Chinese puppet! THE TRUTH HURTS, DOESN'T IT??

• Firstly there is nothing wrong in Nyashanu teaching English in Bolivia. Secondly there is a difference between winning an election and getting power. I wonder what sort of government Morgan can form without support from the state apparatus.

The situation in Zimbabwe is akin to the situation in Israel during the times of the Judges. Israel cried for a leader and voted Saul into power. As it turned out to be, they turned out to be worse off under Saul. That situation repeated itself in Zambia under Chiluba.

I might be wrong, my sixth sense tells me that Morgan is not the right person for Zimbabwe. His tactic was- starve Zimbabwe of any foreign aid injection in the form of balance of payments from the IMF and World bank through sanctions, and once the economy crumbles, people will have no choice but to vote Mugabe out.

That tactic was used at the UZ repeatedly- destroy the property and engage in protests to paralyse the institution and that way the Chancellor will go.

If Morgan had not used this dirty tactic that I already know, then I would have continued to support him as I did at the beginning.

I am not a ZANU apologist either but Morgan is not the way forward. He is a cruel power hungry guy who is prepared to see all of us dying in pursuing a cause which I think he is not prepared to die for himself.

If he truly believes in his cause what is he doing in SA? Kana wakateya mariva murutsva unogotyirei kusviba magaro. I hope he will also experience how hard it is living in the diaspora like most of us. The bacon and toast people talk about does not come the easy way. People here have to clean bumps to get that bacon and toast. I trust he will also do the same.

• Your article shows somuch about your little or no understanding of politics to say the least. Morgan contested in a democratic election which was endorsed as free and fair by sadc and african union and he won hands down. What this means is that he dislodged Mugabe legally and the fact that Mugabe decided to turn into a warlord doesnt mean Morgan has failed. He has delivered the vote and the people of Zimbabwe shall be free again. We all know the destiny of warlords, its a matter of time.

Your letter is littered with fiction. The fact that you are teaching English in Bolivia and not in Zimbabwe speaks volume of your hypocrisy. Mugabe lost elections and should step down pure and simple.

The fact that Mugabe refuses to step down does not symbolize Tsvangira's weakness. We have been there before. Ian Smith said not in a thousand years and this didn't mean the liberation fighters including Mugabe were impotent.

Are you suggesting that the white minorities lost elections leading to independence because of sanctions? Furthermore sanctions at that time were real, not these targeted sanctions against Mugabe and his henchmen.
