DEAR EDITOR—(In response to a Zimbabwe Guardian reader who called Morgan Tsvangirai her hero) it is good that you have someone to call a hero in your life. Your choice of Morgan is baffling, but then that is your choice.
- Zimbabwe had an opposition before MDC - Zimbabwe did not have sanctions before MDC - Zimbabwe did not have hyperinflation before MDC - Zimbabwe was not refered to the Security Council before MDC - Zimbabweans were not asylum seekers/refugees before MDC
But then this could all be pure coincidence, that all the above came about after MDC formation.
I know people who went to Goromonzi with Laxton Tendai Biti or Bismarck as he wanted to be called then.
I was at the University of Zimbabwe with Laxton Tendai Biti. He is blessed with a short fuse. Those who played football (unlike him—he was a cheerleader) remember him on the touchline, behaving like he is doing now.
He was part of Red Stars together with players such as Welshman Ncube (he was a lecturer then), the late Shepherd Nzombe, Arnold Tsunga (Lawyers for Human Rights—he went on to play for Tanganda) and Steven Murambatsvina (Law Society of Zimbabwe).
Arthur Mutambara moved in the same circles as Laxton Tendai Biti.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with starting out as a student activist.
We see a pattern to these spontaneous calls for democracy from these people.

Decay, Mexico • n/a Subject: ONLY FIVE YEARS TO GO? Mon, 05 May 2008 20:07:50 • oNLY 5 YEARS TO GO TO THE NEXT ELECTIONS?
AND IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE WHOLE OF THIS YEAR LOOKS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE WASTED WITH MDC JUMPING UP AND DOWN?
THAT WILL THEN LEAVE ONLY 4 YEARS TO GO TO THE
NEXT ELECTIONS?
HOW ABOUT REGROUPING GUYS INTO A GNU AND GETTING RID OF SANCTIONS AND GETTING THE COUNTRY ON ITS FEET NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE. WHAT A WASTE.
YOU WILL NEVER GET THIS TIME BACK AGAIN.
BODIDILEE, BULAWAYO • na Subject: COUNSELLING MIGHT HELP, EH? Mon, 05 May 2008 09:28:56 • Hey dude, this was a good article to enlighten those of us who had no idea who Biti was before we saw him on tv yelling that MDC won the elections.
thank you for that. cool.
more public profiles would be interesting if you have any up your sleeve? in USA no profile is left unturned when a dude steps up for public office, but in Zimbabwe even wives seldom feature. We have light years to go.
On the other hand, bro', we need to encourage these dudes to get over their ego massaging and start acting like responsible adults and quietly agree to join ZanuPF in a GNU - just like Simba Makoni envisages. We are weary of dudes working against the Government now. It is boring now and has got us no where.
We know exactly where MDC are coming from but no one has any idea where they are going to. Perhaps Gordon Brown and Britain can now provide them with counselling for ADHD. That is always their answer for everything. Counselling. Counselling. Counselling would be good, eh?
And, perhaps those who are not interested in farming their land should also surrender and agree now for it to be split into plots for those who, more than anything else are dying to go farming.
Am sure there are townies who will want to swop a flat in town for a piece of land of equal value? Who will be the first one to make headlines with such an earth-shattering deliverence?
MDC must realise there is work to do. Forget politics now. You have another 5 years in which to regroup and try again. Try and achieve something for the country before then, like demanding that sanctions are lifted - you got them in now get them out - and stop wasting our time with your ranting and raving. Its not very Zimbabwean. Its demeaning. Demeaning? de meaning of dis is its ugly.
