Money transfer agent almost conned me

DEAR EDITOR—I have been using a company to transfer money to Zimbabwe. I knew of this company through a friend. They have been very efficient, but lately they have not lived up to their promise and I have lost £300.00 through them.

I have tried to get through to them several times, but they keep ignoring my calls or when they answerwhich is usually when I withhold my numberthey give one excuse after another.

I only have mobile numbers for them. As they were efficient in the past, and as they were Zimbabweans, I never bothered to have their physical address. I now regret having trusted them.

As you can appreciate, £300 is a lot of money and for people at home this would have been a fortune.

Could you help me please track these people down and expose them for who they really are before many other Zimbabweans are scammed?

I have included the name and telephone number of these people and their Barclays Bank details and my telephone details.

Progress

The Zimbabwe Guardian was able to intervene on behalf of the reader who has since made a successful transfer to Zimbabwe. We urge all people to make sure that MTAs are authentic. Check whether they have a physical address, or landline number and keep receipts of all bank deposits. The company is called Swift Transfers located in Chelmsford, Essex.

• I was under the impression that WESTERN UNION had lowered their fees because of the opposition coming up fast - MASTERLINK, MONEYLINE UK, and the POST OFFICE.

So, last week I went back to WESTERN UNION to send home school fees and was charged £12 for my £50!

That cost me 24% and is not lowering their charges as far as I am concerned. I had to work two hours to get that £12.

They are making as much money out of Africa as are any of the multinationals. No wonder others prefer the black market - it is totally reliable and instant!

Anyone else got a better idea?
